With two classmates (Ethan and Anna) we created a brand named Reduced Movements and pitched our clothing and range plan to retail store Void clothing. He loved our idea of sustainability and the designs of our clothing and said it would fit well within his store. Sustainability was at the forefront of our design process we focused our attention on learning new ways to make our practice sustainable rather than “green-washing” our customers through marketing. We were less focused on how long the garments take to make but rather what they are made of. The saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” really resonates with our brand ethos. We worked with what we had to produce the highest level of quality while keeping production within New Zealand. All garments were made out of preloved clothing, we made use of the scrap fabrics we had lying around from old projects and clothing we didn't wear anymore. The T-shirts are reversible with our colour palette being predominantly black with pops of primary colours. Each t-shirt then has its own unique screen printed/ embroidered design on the front drawn by Ethan and I. Our prints juxtapose life against death, a reflection of the thin line we walk in the ever growing toxic home we call Earth. Other garments added to the collection are an upcycled denim tote bag, patched denim pants with screen printed and embroidered features and beaded necklaces. We also created swing tags and care labels using laser etching that were stitched inside the t-shirts as a design feature.
