FDS1 was the first project I completed within my study at Otago Polytechnic which taught me pattern making skills as well as creating a design behind a concept. The theme we were given was 'utilitarian'. This collection was inspired by vests in the military, taking inspiration from the cargo pockets and creating a modern look. I created a client profile of a young girl who lives by the beach which is what inspired my colour palette and the location of my photo shoot. All fabrics from this collection were second hand as I wanted to be as environmentally friendly as possible. All seams are topstitched with a contrasting black thread which allows the panelled seams the stand out more.
