For this project we were given the theme synthesis which to me means looking for a connection between different materials and creating something new out of them. My main focus for this collection was sustainability as I wanted to create something new out of pre-loved clothes. I looked through op shops and my own wardrobe finding denim which overall cost me $10. I then used 100% cotton for the shirts and dyed them a light pink colour using beetroot. The dye blended nicely with the red exposed overlocking on the seams. Since being a kid I've always loved painting and decided to incorporate that into my design. I created the painting designs in photoshop and traced them onto the denim, then hand painted the designs. The message behind the paintings is about society's messed up version of beauty. Many young women these days get beauty alterations to their bodies to become society's ideal image of perfection. The flowers represent the beauty within a person instead of what is on the outside which nowadays is often masked up.
